The Ins and Outs of Biopuncture
For patients who experience pain or inflammation-related issues such as asthma, treatment often involves medication that masks the issue rather than fixes it. Biopuncture, on the other hand, is an alternative treatment that can help stimulate your immune system to heal the underlying problem.
What is biopuncture?
Biopuncture is a type of injection therapy that’s used to treat pain as well as inflammatory problems. It can be used in addition to more conventional forms of treatment or when these other types of treatment aren’t effective enough.
The therapy uses very small needles to inject a highly diluted solution (often plant-based) into specific areas of your body. These can include local pain points such as a tender nerve, inflamed tissue, or a knotted muscle.
What are its benefits?
Biopuncture stimulates your body’s immune system to promote a healing effect. It has the following additional benefits:
- No recovery time needed
- Results can often be achieved within a few weeks
- Solutions can be tailored for your specific condition
- Can be used along with conventional treatments
- Helps avoid the use of medications – such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and steroids – that can be harmful when used in the long-term
- Can benefit a wide variety of conditions
- Treats the problem rather than just masking the pain
Who would benefit most from biopuncture?
Biopuncture can be used to treat many conditions, including the following:
- Sprains and strains
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Joint pain
- Shoulder pain
- Nerve pain
- Hay fever
- Irritable bowel syndrome
How many treatments are recommended?
The number of treatments you’ll need will depend on the issue you’re being treated for as well as the amount of time you’ve had the problem. For example, sprains can heal fairly quickly, as can many injuries that are recent. For chronic pain that has lasted for a long period of time, you may need a few weeks or months of treatment.
Generally, many patients will need treatment up to about two months but will start to see results by week four. The goal isn’t to achieve a quick fix by masking the pain, but to help tissues and other injuries heal.
What is treatment like?
Biopuncture treatment is quite painless since the needles are very thin, and the doses are very small. Even people who are usually afraid of needles usually tolerate the treatment quite well.
You’ll be given injections in specific areas depending on what you’re being treated for, and the treatment is fast and easy.
